Google LLC’s Android team today unveiled artificial intelligence tools powered by its Gemini model within Android Studio that will allow business users to meet privacy, security and management needs for small and large organizations.
In May, Google introduced the AI upgrade for Android Studio, its mobile software development tool. This update integrated Google’s flagship Gemini AI model into the platform, enabling developers to chat with the AI, gain insights about Android software development, get inline code completion and receive code suggestions.
The Gemini in Android Studio for business updates aims to bring additional considerations for enterprise users to the AI tools including enterprise data governance, AI intellectual property safeguards and tailored code customization for organizational codebases.
“We’ve heard that some people at businesses have additional needs that require more sensitive data protection, and this offering delivers the same Gemini in Android Studio that you’ve grown accustomed to, now with the additional privacy enhancements that your organization might require,” said Sandhya Mohan, product manager for Android at Google.
Google said developers and administrators can gain access to these new features through Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise tier subscriptions.
To build on Android Studio Gemini AI tooling capabilities for business user security needs, Google said it is providing customer control over code, inputs and recommendations so that it will not be used to train or develop any models. Customers will retain control of their data and enjoy enhanced security that may be required by highly regulated industries such as healthcare and finance.
Organizations will also benefit from generative AI IP Indemnification designed to protect their organizations from copyright infringement claims related to AI-generated code.
“This added layer of protection is the same indemnification policy we provide to Google Cloud customers using our generative AI APIs, and allows their developers to leverage the power of AI with greater confidence and reduced risk,” said Mohan.
As long as customers follow responsible AI practices, Google will cover claims, like copyright infringement, made against an organization, regardless of whether they stem from generated output or Google’s use of training data to create AI models.
Developers will only need to connect their organization’s codebase to Gemini in Android Studio to a repository such as GitHub, GitLab or BitBucket – or an on-premises installation – to benefit from tailored assistance. Once that is done the code assistant will customize its responses, code completion suggestions, generation and chat responses to the company’s business logic and best practices.
