Domino Data Lab introduces new AI governance, data management features

Domino Data Lab Inc. today introduced new features for managing artificial intelligence models and the data they process.

The capabilities are rolling out to the startup’s namesake AI platform. The software, which is used by companies such as Moody’s Corp. and Bayer AG, helps developers prepare datasets for machine learning projects. It also automates related tasks such as deploying newly trained AI models to production and monitoring their performance.

Another set of features in Domino’s platform promises to ease AI governance, or the task of ensuring that neural networks work reliably. During model development, engineers can use the platform to collect data about potential risks and share them with colleagues. The update that Domino debuted today expands its capabilities in this area.

According to the company, the new platform release will make it easier to manage the technical data that engineers collect about a new model as part of reliability reviews. Project managers, in turn, can use a new conditional approvals feature to release an AI model or block it depending on its performance.

A second set of enhancements will automate some of the manual work involved in AI governance reviews. According to Domino, users can define AI risk management policies in a new visual interface. An automated monitoring feature analyzes each of a company’s AI models to determine if they adhere to risk policies. Meanwhile, a tool called Gated Deployment blocks AI models that don’t meet reliability standards from rolling out to production.

In addition to helping enterprises avoid AI governance issues, the new platform release promises to reduce the risk of cost overruns. Domino has added a dashboard that breaks down a company’s AI-related infrastructure expenses by project, workload and user. AI teams receive so-called budget alerts when project costs exceed user-defined thresholds.

“Our Spring 2025 Release gives enterprises an AI factory for turning experimentation into impact — with built-in governance and automation to deliver AI products at scale,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Nick Elprin.

The new governance features are rolling out alongside enhancements focused on easing data management tasks. One of the additions is an integration with NetApp Inc.’s ONTAP data management platform. Using the integration, AI developers can access ONTAP-managed records through Domino. A second new feature, Domino Apps, makes AI model output and other data accessible to business users through simple applications.

The company is rolling out the platform enhancements alongside a service offering called Zero-to-AI. According to Domino, it’s designed to help organizations more quickly take AI projects from pilot to production. Customers receive access to code modules, user interface templates and other resources.
