AI is driving a major shift in how organizations approach data protection. AI data protection is becoming an intertwined priority for IT leaders, as organizations face the combined challenge of protecting AI-driven data and harnessing AI to boost resilience against cyber threats.
The rising urgency to safeguard agentic systems, evolve recovery models and embed intelligence into protection workflows will shape the agenda during the Data Protection & AI Summit, from June 30 to July 1. There’s much to cover, and it’s all two sides of the same coin, according to Christophe Bertrand, principal analyst at theCUBE Research.
“How do you leverage AI to enhance your ability to protect your infrastructure, protect your data, protect your applications? It’s a feature play,” he said. “But at the same time, you have this nascent AI infrastructure that also needs protection. Sometimes it needs protection from itself. In many ways, the time has come to fight AI-powered cyber risk with AI-powered recovery solutions.”
Bertrand will explore the new opportunities around AI data protection during the event. Industry leaders, such as Infinidat Inc. and Object First Inc., will join the conversation, sharing how their solutions are helping enterprises secure critical data in AI-centric environments. In this new era, questions are arising regarding the volume of AI infrastructure and data that require protection, sometimes from AI agents themselves. Backup and recovery processes must evolve to leverage these emerging technologies.
“As AI integration increases within organizations, there is a heightened focus on protecting these new critical data assets,” Bertrand said. “Identifying and prioritizing essential data for backup is vital. IT needs prescriptive guidance and education to de-risk and protect its AI infrastructure.”
Organizations are strategically investing in infrastructure, people and processes to counter evolving data and availability risks. While some backup solutions already utilize AI and machine learning, there’s more at play here to consider, according to Bertrand.
“There is a growing interest in enhancing autonomous data protection due to rising data loss from cybercriminal activities and poorly deployed agentic AI implementations,” he said. “Organizations are also observing the potential impact of generative AI, which may significantly expand data backup capabilities.”
The summit will explore what types of AI-generated data are becoming critical to protect and how organizations are redefining backup priorities. Discussions will also cover how IT leaders are using AI and machine learning to automate protection, the risks posed by agentic AI and the infrastructure investments needed to support resilient AI operations.
