Migrating from legacy systems to a cloud-native platform can be a painful but ultimately rewarding shift for companies. But what if that friction could be eased?

Nutanix’s Tobi Knaup and Edward Jones’ Kraig Hufstedler discuss cloud native flexibility with theCUBE.
Enter Nutanix Inc. and its solution suite, which is designed to meet the evolving demands of hybrid cloud environments — from scaling containerized applications to enabling developer velocity. With a widespread network of financial advisors, Edware Jones serves as a succinct example of Nitanix’s cloud-native flexibility vision in action.
“We were early Mesosphere customers, and we saw a huge need for additional applications to support all of our clients and branch teams,” said Kraig Hufstedler (pictured, left), team leader for platform as a service at Edward Jones. “We wanted to move to a more flexible developer platform where the developers could quickly and easily build out a microservice architecture and transition away from the larger [virtual machine]-based applications.”
Hufstedler and Tobi Knaup (right), vice president and general manager for cloud native at Nutanix, spoke with theCUBE’s Bob Laliberte and Paul Nashawaty at Nutanix .NEXT, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform in detail, exploring new capabilities including the recently announced AI integrations. (* Disclosure below.)
NKP was built with enterprise needs in mind. It combines the flexibility of open-source Kubernetes with robust enterprise features — security, compliance, observability and Day-2 operations. Unlike traditional proprietary solutions, NKP delivers an open, complete and fully supported platform with zero proprietary lock-in, according to Knaup.
“It’s quite difficult to get the benefit from Kubernetes, which is primarily agility for most organizations, and at the same time meet all these requirements, be compliant, be secure and so forth,” he said. “We designed NKP with that type of customer in mind. So it’s not just Kubernetes, it’s a full end-to-end platform that checks all the boxes in terms of security, access control and observability.”
Crucial to Edward Jones’ strategy is the ability to run workloads anywhere. Many teams have opted to stay on-prem due to data gravity and integration requirements, while others have explored public cloud operations. NKP’s consistent operating model across environments reduced training complexity and supported seamless app portability, Hufstedler added.
