Akka and Deloitte Canada team up to address cost and scale of agentic AI

Distributed application development platform Akka today announced a new partnership with Deloitte Canada to solve critical issues of agentic artificial intelligence, including cost, performance and resilience.

Under the partnership, Deloitte will leverage the Akka Agentic Platform, including the software development kit and Akka Automated Operations, for its customers’ agentic AI deployments.

Akka, the business name for Lightbend Inc., is commonly known for its set of libraries that have been downloaded more than 1 billion times that assist in building resilient and elastic distributed systems. The company’s agentic platform is designed to deliver business value quickly and economically, with the promise of operating at three times the velocity while consuming one-third the compute.

The company argues that the agentic AI shift requires a fundamental architectural change from transaction-centered to conversation-centered systems, as traditional software-as-a-service applications are built on stateless business logic executing CRUD operations against relational databases. In contrast, agentic services maintain state within the service itself and store each event to track how the service reached its current state.

The Akka Agentic Platform aims to accelerate agentic AI application delivery as these technologies move from data science departments into core application delivery teams that must consider Day 2 operations and overall cost efficiencies.

Akka claims customers can innovate and operate at three times the velocity with one-third of the compute. The platform includes orchestration for long-running agentic processes and nonblocking asynchronous large language model adapters, as well as intrinsic, durable memory and an event-driven system benchmarked to 10 million transactions per second. Finally, it offers data streaming for real-time, ambient and adaptive AI, and multiregion deployment capabilities with replication filtering for compliance requirements.

“Agentic AI has become a priority with enterprises everywhere as a new model that will unlock trillions of dollars of growth,” said Chief Executive Tyler Jewell. “However, this revolutionary model is plagued by serious questions about cost, scale and business resilience.”

The Akka and Deloitte collaboration will provide customers with the ease of development, deployment and operations at the scale they need to leverage agentic AI for their businesses.

“Our large enterprise customers are beyond the proof-of-concept phase of their agentic AI journey and are looking at ways to scale this technology to meet mission-critical deployments,” said Anand Nimkar, a partner and applied AI practice leader at Deloitte Canada. “Akka’s unique platform provides the means to deliver business value with agentic AI quickly, economically and reliably.”

Akka is a venture capital-backed startup that has raised $121 million over nine rounds. Investors in the company include Dell Technologies Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, Shasta Ventures LP and Greylock Partners.
