Rumble plans to acquire AI infrastructure company Northern Data to expand cloud operations

Rumble Inc., an open cloud provider and “censorship-free” alternative to YouTube, today announced plans to acquire Northern Data AG, an artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure firm.

Global stablecoin issuer Tether Ltd. also offered an agreement to buy services from Rumble with an initial commitment to buy $150 million in graphics processing unit services over two years after closing the Northern Data deal. Tether also agreed on a $100 million advertising service agreement with Rumble.

Both companies, Rumble and Northern Data, are backed by Tether. The announcements follow a $775 million strategic investment in Rumble from Tether in February.

The acquisition deal, valued at up to $970 million, will provide Rumble with an additional 22,400 GPUs and expand its cloud datacenter capacity. The company said the transaction would also provide it with a larger foothold in Europe, where Northern Data holds a major presence, accelerating the company’s global expansion.

“The addition of GPUs and data centers to our existing video and cloud portfolio would just be the start,” said Rumble Chairman and Chief Executive Chris Pavlovski. “Our vision is to continue building out this ecosystem with the addition of new verticals, including financial services like Rumble Wallet, AI chatbots and agents, productivity suite with email and storage, and new web navigation solutions, all in the name of freedom, privacy, independence and resilience.”

Pavlovski added that Rumble’s “freedom-first” principles echo a new necessity in the tech industry that represent “a future where technology empowers rather than controls.” Rumble states that AI will have a major impact on society, and its potential could be jeopardized if a few large tech companies control all infrastructure and services.

Under the deal, Rumble would gain access to four fully owned data center locations, starting with Northern Data’s site in Maysville, Georgia, which will deliver up to 180 megawatts of capacity.

“The AI revolution requires a complete redesign of compute architecture, one that is underpinned not only by large-scale GPU deployments and access to energy but a foundational commitment to individual control,” said Northern Data co-CEO John Hoffman.

Rumble said that, in addition to global expansion, the incorporation of scaled GPU capabilities from Northern Data would provide the company with new AI services and cloud capabilities to enhance video innovations.

In addition to being a leading video-sharing platform, Rumble offers users a comprehensive studio for creators to record, stream and publish videos across multiple sites, along with an advertising platform.
