XBuild, a company aiming to bring artificial intelligence to residential construction contractors, today announced it raised $19 million in early-stage funding to build what it calls a “vibe coding” estimating platform for construction projects.
N47 led the Series A round, and Rackhouse Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz also participated.
XBuild was founded by the Firemaps Inc. team, which provides a tech-driven solution that helps California homeowners protect their homes against wildfires by connecting them with contractors to complete and maintain “hardening” work.
The new company will start with residential roofing contractor estimation and expand its platform into proposals for concrete, landscaping, painting, windows and doors, glass and glazing, insulation, HVAC and plumbing. It works with contractors to swiftly estimate how much it will cost to per project and present quotes to customers.
“Construction and the cost of building is the last space that truly has not been disrupted by technology in the way most of the rest of the world has,” said co-founder Jahan Khanna. “It is the final frontier.”
XBuild’s AI system analyzes photos, measurements and projects details and compares them to similar projects to generate comparable estimates based on regional pricing, workflows, costs, relevant building codes and other factors.
The company said after launching its first product last year, an insurance-focused point solution, it has seen more than 15,000 projects through to completion. It added that this represents more than $250 million worth of value, with more than 40,000 on hours saved by contractors in creating estimates.
With the new product, Roofing Proposals, the company believes that contractors can replace template-driven estimates and gain even more cost and time savings. This will lead to higher profit margins, overcome format hurdles and make homeowners happier by being more transparent.
XBuild is launching an AI copilot for roofing proposals this month, but has plans to release a copilot for all general construction trades next month. This will include exterior, structural, interior, site work, finishing and specialty work.
“Estimating and proposal generation remain major bottlenecks for contractors, yet legacy tools haven’t kept pace with AI capabilities or the realities of how the industry works today,” said Matthew Cowan, general partner at N47.
As XBuild works to revolutionize estimates for residential construction. Startups such as Trunk Tools Inc., Buildots Inc. and Procore Technologies Inc. are working to use complex AI systems and digitization for medium and large-scale commercial construction project management.
