Human resources technology company Checkr Inc. today announced the launch of Identity Verification, a new hiring solution designed to help employers confirm candidates are whom they say they are.
The new IDV offering is built directly into Checkr’s application flow and allows businesses to detect potential fraud earlier, reduce operational risk and support more accurate hiring decisions.
Employees faking credentials or not telling the truth is not a new problem, but in the age of artificial intelligence, it’s one that is becoming more difficult to assess. Checkr argues that employers are seeing a growing number of candidates who are not who they claim to be, from impersonators and bots to applicants misrepresenting their location.
Checkr’s IDV is built for the realities of today’s hiring landscape. Unlike general-purpose identity solutions, it’s embedded directly into the hiring workflow and can run alongside background checks or at key moments in the candidate journey to ensure an end-to-end verification process.
The offering allows employers to confidently connect the person who applies, interviews and completes screening by verifying identity during the hiring process and, in doing so, reduces gaps that can occur with point-in-time checks. Candidates complete verification in roughly two minutes via a mobile-friendly experience with no separate accounts or third-party platforms required.
IDV combines multiple technical signals to detect fraud, including liveness detection, which identifies photos, prerecorded videos, masks and deepfakes It also has device and network intelligence, which flags virtual private networks, TOR usage and location mismatches. And it can do forensic document analysis, which detects tampering and verifies ID security features like holograms and watermarks.
Failed or incomplete verifications prevent background checks from starting, saving screening costs. The results are available in the dashboard, allowing employers to take the next step, whether engaging the candidate or rerunning the check.
In early testing with Checkr customers, the company claims, IDV has delivered tangible results, including unexpected locations, mismatched names, fake selfie submissions, biometric mismatches and invalid IDs.
IDV is a part of the Checkr platform, a system that leverages AI to decode fragmented and difficult-to-verify information to deliver clear, actionable insights for hiring teams. The platform is used by more than 120,000 businesses to power their hiring processes.
Checkr has raised $680 million in venture capital over eight rounds, according to data from Tracxn. Investors include Fidelity Investments, Franklin Templeton India Pte. Ltd., Bond Capital Management LP, Khosla Ventures, Coatue Management, Accel Partners LP, T. Rowe Price Group Inc., Y Combinator and Institutional Venture Partners LP.
