Atlas rolls out multi-agent AI system to automate game asset production

Atlas, an artificial intelligence-native video game content creation platform, announced today that it has launched a multi-agent system within its AI Studio for game asset production.

Atlas AI Studio is now globally available on Google Cloud Marketplace, letting developers create gaming assets such as 2D, 3D, textures, environments and game worlds with fleets of AI agents. Artists can describe what they need in natural language and the system goes to work under the hood by assembling complete pipelines spanning entire generations of work. It will build textures, optimizations and engine integration.

By employing entire fleets of agents, instead of single AI models, which produce isolated outputs, AI Studio uses multiple reasoning agents that can specialize and collaborate within 3D content pipelines.

“The games development industry has been stuck in a paradigm where AI means ‘type a prompt, get an output,'” said founder Ben James. “That’s useful for exploration, but it breaks down in production. Real pipelines chain dozens of operations together.”

Using the language- and visual-based nature of generative AI, an agent can ingest a multitude of sources, including style guides and art bibles, extract constraints and recommend combinations of AI models to improve quality. It automatically manages the technical work under the hood and evaluates its own parameters and activity, letting the artists and development team do the strategic thinking by adjusting after it comes back with results.

According to Atlas, as the agentic team does work, it checks in and shows its work. This means that as the project takes shape, it retains a consistent output that can be guided by human input. Using common natural language, artists and technical teams can direct agents to build workflows for specific needs, then refine iteratively.

Every workflow is designed to be no-destructive and visual: Artists can see exactly what’s happening along the way and adjust any node without starting over or reverting.

Once perfected, the entire output can be run directly in industry-standard environments such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender or custom setups.

This multi-agent approach and the studio, launching out of a beta test, have been in the hands of numerous AAA studios producing production- and enterprise-grade quality work. Studios, including Square Enix Holdings Co. Ltd., Parallel and PeDePe GbR, are using the platform.

“Atlas’s ability to seamlessly integrate with our highly customized workflows has been a game-changer,” said Joseph Burnette, tech director of the innovation technology division at Square Enix.
