OneSpan Sign takes aim at the slow work around bank agreements

Authentication and digital agreements company OneSpan Inc. today unveiled new and planned features for its OneSpan Sign electronic signature service that go beyond the signing step.

The update is aimed at the parts of the agreement process that slow down banks and other financial institutions. Electronic signing itself has become an expected part of digital business, OneSpan said, but the drag now comes from the surrounding work, including document preparation, identity checks and the handling of exceptions.

Chief Technology Officer Ashish Jain said the value of an agreement lies in “the business outcome the agreement enables.” At a bank, that might be a newly opened account, a loan or some other customer transaction. OneSpan is applying intelligence “where it can remove unnecessary work,” he said.

On the preparation side, staff who set up agreements get a redesigned interface built around a single dashboard. Artificial intelligence helps them place fields on the document. Customers reviewing the agreement before they sign can pull up an AI-generated summary, and the software will answer their questions about the document.

Several of the additions deal with verification. Automated good-order checks are meant to catch problems in a document earlier, and attachments are inspected for tampering. Advanced biometric identity verification is part of the package, as is support for digital credentials and wallets.

None of it is supposed to slow the customer down, according to OneSpan. The company launched its DigipassONE authentication platform in July with digital credential support built in.

Further along the process, planned support for the Model Context Protocol will let authorized AI agents work with agreement workflows and data directly. OneSpan is also broadening its integration options and developing agentic workflows. The company expects the changes to reduce handoffs once an agreement is signed.

OneSpan splits its products into cybersecurity and digital agreements portfolios. Financial institutions have been customers for more than 30 years, and the company says more than 60% of the world’s 100 largest banks use its technology. The electronic signature side processes more than 100 million transactions a year.

Andrew Gens, a research analyst covering AI software at International Data Corp., said customers want agreement data connected to broader business systems and AI initiatives. “Value creation is expanding beyond signature capture and toward the broader agreement lifecycle,” he said.

OneSpan described the package as a mix of new and planned capabilities and did not give release dates for individual features. The company will go through the update in a webinar on Oct. 14.
