Docusign adds a desktop PDF editor to its Intelligent Agreement Management platform
Electronic signature company Docusign Inc. today introduced Docusign PDF Editor, a desktop application for editing PDF documents before they go out for signature.
Plugging directly into the company’s Intelligent Agreement Management platform, the new release seeks to take on the problem of contracts being prepared in one tool and signed in another, where even a minor edit can mean exporting and uploading a fresh version.
That kind of edit can now be made in the editor itself. Docusign said the app covers the everyday PDF jobs people would normally open a separate program for, such as changing text and images or pulling several files together into one document.
Redaction for sensitive information is part of the package, alongside form creation and file conversion. Documents can be sent for signature from inside the app, and any changes made beforehand remain connected to the agreement history as part of an auditable record.
Signing locks the file. From that point the agreement passes to Docusign’s artificial intelligence tools. Renewal dates and potential risks show up there, and teams can ask questions about what their contracts say.
Graham Sheldon, who became Docusign’s chief product officer in July after holding the same job at UiPath Inc., pitched the launch as a way to keep contract work in one place. “You shouldn’t have to jump in between tools just to get a contract ready for signature,” Sheldon said. He described the editor as the latest step in bringing the full agreement process together under IAM. Before UiPath, he spent more than 20 years at Microsoft Corp.
Legal, sales and procurement staff are among the users Docusign has in mind, along with human resources. By the company’s account, having everything in one system cuts down on manual handoffs and version confusion. Sensitive documents also pass through fewer applications along the way.
IAM itself dates to April 2024, when Docusign launched its move beyond e-signatures into wider contract management. PDF editing is the newest addition to a system that already covered creating, signing and managing agreements.
The company’s fiscal second-quarter results last month showed revenue of $875.7 million, up 9% from a year earlier. IAM accounted for 15.1% of annual recurring revenue at the end of July, against 12.6% three months before. The company expects that share to reach 18% to 19% by the end of its fiscal year in January.
Docusign has not said what it will charge for the app, which goes on sale to IAM and eSignature customers Nov. 2 in six languages, including English, French and German. Support for more languages is planned for 2027.
