What to expect during the AI Data Pipeline Forum: Join theCUBE Oct. 13
The artificial intelligence infrastructure race is no longer just about building faster chips. AI infrastructure bottlenecks are shifting attention to a bigger challenge: keeping those chips supplied with data, connected through high-speed networks and operating within increasingly demanding power and cooling limits..
That systems-level challenge takes the spotlight at the AI Data Pipeline Forum in San Jose, California, which takes place during the OCP Global Summit. The event brings together industry leaders to address the architectural changes required to support dense AI clusters and distributed inference. TheCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, will provide exclusive coverage, airing Oct. 13, hosted by John Furrier, executive analyst at theCUBE Research.
The discussion comes as AI infrastructure design shifts away from optimizing individual components toward coordinating entire systems. As data centers become increasingly interconnected, the movement of data across compute, storage and networking infrastructure is emerging as a defining architectural challenge. That transition is creating new demands for storage, memory, networking and physical infrastructure.
ScaleFlux Inc., which develops storage and memory controller technologies, is among the companies addressing data movement constraints as AI workloads become more memory-intensive. Dell Technologies Inc. is also helping advance rack-scale architectures designed to accommodate growing compute density and operational requirements.
AI infrastructure bottlenecks drive shift toward system-level design
As inference workloads expand, the ability to move data efficiently through increasingly complex hardware environments is becoming a critical measure of AI infrastructure performance.
In a recent analysis from theCUBE Research, Chief Analyst Dave Vellante identified memory constraints, data movement inefficiencies and inference economics as mounting challenges, with storage taking on a more active role in the AI pipeline.
Those pressures are influencing semiconductor development. In July, ScaleFlux introduced PCIe Gen6 SSD and CXL memory controllers designed to increase throughput and memory capacity while managing power consumption.
“AI infrastructure is driving unprecedented demand for higher bandwidth, greater memory capacity, and lower power consumption,” said Hao Zhong, co-founder and chief executive officer of ScaleFlux. “With the introduction of FC6116 and MC600, ScaleFlux is extending its silicon platform into the PCIe Gen6 era, giving customers the building blocks to design faster, more efficient, and more flexible storage and memory systems.”
The challenge extends beyond data movement. Power delivery and cooling must also accommodate denser systems, making modular infrastructure and coordinated engineering increasingly important.
“You have data centers that require cooling coming in from the top, cooling coming from the bottom,” said Sarat Krishnan, director of PowerEdge AI architecture and systems development engineering at Dell, during a recent theCUBE interview. “You have power whips of various sizes. We have learned now to build modular rack-scale infrastructure that can quickly adapt to all of these needs.”
These developments provide the backdrop for AI Data Pipeline Forum, where discussions will address how open standards and modular designs can support the next generation of AI systems without introducing additional infrastructure bottlenecks.
