Gemini 4 Argon reaches Gemini app Pro and Ultra subscribers alongside a new tasks mode
Google LLC today brought its Gemini 4 Argon frontier artificial intelligence model to Gemini app users on its Pro and Ultra subscription plans, two weeks after the model went first to vetted cybersecurity defenders.
Subscribers on those plans also get a new tasks mode that keeps Gemini working on a job after they have stepped away from the computer.
Argon’s arrival changes how Gemini answers in the app. Responses come “more directly with less hedging,” according to Google, and the model repeats itself only when it needs to. Anyone who hands it a longer job should also see progress updates more often than before.
Switching to tasks takes one toggle in the main chat window. Once it’s on, Gemini “can work for you even when you’re not at your computer,” Google said. The count of connected apps has passed 40, so a task can run as far as a grocery order through Instacart or a table booked on OpenTable. Adobe Inc. and Shopify Inc. are on the list for people designing or running a business.
Argon also brings what Google calls “major improvements in coding.” Google’s chart at the Sept. 30 unveiling had the model at 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1, a test of long-horizon software engineering, against 74.2% for Anthropic PBC’s Claude Opus 5.5. OpenAI Group PBC’s GPT-6 Astra sat a 10th of a point further back.
The agentic coding interface from Google Antigravity now runs directly inside the Gemini app for macOS, which means a chat can turn into a coding session without a jump to a separate tool. Google did not mention a Windows version.
The app was one part of a wider release today. Koray Kavukcuoglu, chief AI architect at Google, wrote in a separate post that developers anywhere can now build on Argon through the paid tier of the Gemini application programming interface. Introductory rates of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens hold until Nov. 30, when they double to $4 and $20.
Kavukcuoglu’s post also set out an offer for researchers. Up to 10,000 scientists can apply for six months of free access to the highest usage tier in Antigravity. Cybersecurity teams that want Argon without its cyber guardrails still apply through the Fairwind Program.
On the consumer side, Argon is also available in AI Mode in Search for Pro and Ultra subscribers. A Google AI Pro subscription costs $19.99 a month in the U.S. Ultra plans start at $99.99 and come with higher Argon limits. Google’s plans page says the tasks mode is limited to select countries for now and that Argon is still rolling out to Pro subscribers.
