Google Cloud Platform NEWS

MapR, Talend Join Google Cloud Platform Partner Program

Google Cloud PlatformMapR Technologies announced today that it has joined the Google Cloud Platform Partner Program as a Technology Partner. MapR, which provides enterprise-level distribution for the open source database system Apache Hadoop, had already revealed plans to make that distribution available via the Google Compute Engine. The move to Google Cloud Platform Partner will give MapR greater ability to integrate the platform with Google’s Compute Engine.

MapR has recently made several over moves in the Big Data arena, including Drawn To Scale’s announcement that MapR will partner with it to distribute MapR’s M3 Edition with Drawn to Scale’s Spire. MapR also named a new vice president of service and support last week.

For MapR the Google development platform provides several key features that customers can utilize, including: cloud app, large scale computing, Big Data, and cloud storage solutions. Making use of Google App Engine, Google Cloud SQL, Google Cloud Storage, and Google BigQuery, and a host of other uniquely Google tools, MapR customers will have a full array of development goodies at their disposal.

“To help customers get the most out of our cloud platform products, we work closely with technology companies, like MapR Technologies, that provide powerful complementary solutions integrated with our platform,” said Google Cloud Platform’s head of sales and business development, Eric Morse.

MapR is not the only newcomer to Google’s Cloud Platform. Talend has also joined the Cloud Platform Partner Program as a Technology Partner. Talend’s Open Studio for Big Data is an open source application that allows users to integrate Big Data and develop in a more user-friendly graphical interface. Open Studio for Big Data includes native support for Google’s BigQuery, which allows customers to quickly find the data they need.

“The Google Cloud Platform Partner Program enables us to provide our customers with powerful new solutions for big data integration and quality that are fully integrated with the power of the Google Cloud Platform,” said Fabrice Bonan, co-founder and chief operating officer for Talend.

The appeal of open source technology and the need to simplify complex Big Data development seem to be driving factors for both companies. This also seems to be a theme across many industries for companies that have adopted Apache Hadoop. Google’s Cloud Platform may provide just the tools they need.
