Drawn to Scale to Offer Real Time Hadoop Database

Drawn to Scale has entered into a partnership with MapR Technologies Inc. to provide real time Hadoop databases to its customers. With this real time SQL technology, mobile and interactive web applications will have the backing of Big Data and high performance, enterprise-grade databases powered by Drawn to Scale’s Spire and MapR’s M3 Edition.

Drawn to Scale will include M3 Edition within its Spire database package. This will put highly available distributed Big Data systems in the hands of mobile developers who can then deliver the crisp and rich user experience that today’s users demand. Developers will be able to utilize the tools within Spire to work in a Hadoop development environment that behaves like a standard relational database management system (RDBMS), which should help those familiar with SQL development feel at home.

Many organizations hoping to gain the performance and functionality of Hadoop may find the development environment to be prohibitive. Drawn to Scale is one of a few vendors that introduced tools aimed at simplifying Hadoop development. With the backing of MapR, Drawn to Scale is filling what it considers a “major gap” in the market for Big Data by delivering a non-relational database system in a relational database package.

“We are thrilled to work with MapR to deliver M3 as part of Spire as the first real time database for Hadoop,” said Bradford Stephens, CEO of Drawn to Scale.

Spire provides distributed indexing and a query engine that may be more approachable to developers who are used to working with a RDBMS such as MySQL. This could make Apache Hadoop accessible to a larger pool of mobile and dynamic web developers. For Big Data as a whole, this could be the next evolutionary step in Hadoop development.
