Dublin has become the technology homeland again, as we previously discussed how a lot of companies are looking to go back to their roots. Companies such as Baltimore, Euristix, Iona, Parthus, and SmartForce all started up in Ireland and these employees were later hired by large companies like Google and Facebook, spreading the Irish technology knowledge even further in the United States.
Now it seems like Irish companies want to further expand their roots again with the introduction of a new wave of technology. SAP software giant hosted its very first Start-up Focus Forum in the technology homeland at the Citywest Business Campus in Dublin. The forum helped 27 start-up companies find products that can offer solutions to real world problems, using SAP technology and then present their solutions in front of SAP executives like Liam Ryan, MD of SAP Ireland. The presenters have their hands in areas such as: analytics, big data, cloud, and SaaS.
The start-ups with ideas that hold the most weight will be selected within the next week to join the SAP Start-up Focus Program and will have the opportunity to receive free testing and development licenses for the SAP HANA technology for as long as one year in order to give them time to turn their concepts into real-world solutions.
HANA is a platform that uses SAP in-memory computing technology for real-time analytics and applications.
The winners will be asked to enroll in a bootcamp and will have the privilege of exploring funding opportunities with SAP Ventures. And then from there, they will present their solutions at SAPPHIRE NOW 2012, which is SAP’s largest trade fair. Over 10,000 customers, partners and influences will be there. The fair will be held from November 13-16.
It will be exciting to see who winners are and what solutions they have to offer. Who knows? We may have the next big thing like Google emerge out of this Focus Forum.
