Do You Have a Zombie Smartphone? BYOD Monster Mash

Mobile security firms Appthority and Fixmo released a new Halloween-themed infographic that sums up the scary state of BYOD in the enterprise using a few very colorful illustrations.

The companies say over 50 percent of all Android users own zombie devices, which run on outdated versions of the operating system. There’s also the vampire app, which take personal information and often misuse it.  Over 86 percent of Android applications can access private data, while 24 percent of IT pros saw malware on their phones in 2011.

The two companies also list user-owned devices, or rather their mismanagement, as a big security risk in the enterprises. These are the “werewolves”: 55 percent of mobile phones used in business will be owned by employees in 2015, and 90 percent of companies will run their own apps on these handsets.  On the flip side of the coin, 47 percent of enterprises already had a security breach due to BYOD.

Lastly there are the zombies: half-baked mobile management policies. Only 9 percent of organizations can remotely wipe corporate data from users’ devices, but at the same time, 71 percent plan on implementing a solution that separates personal and business information.
