What the World Really Wants from iPhone : Biometrics (or an iWatch)

With word of Apple’s upcoming press event on September 10th, the world awaits what could very well be the next generation iPhone.  Many are also hopeful of a fresh iPad design, or an entirely new Apple product all together.  While pundits have conjectured for well over a year as to what the new iPhone could bring to the table, it’s the rumor of biometric-enhanced security that attracted the most attention this week.  It’s not surprising, given the growing consumer concern over data privacy and protection, and incorporating biometrics into a smartphone could be one way Apple develops the edge it needs to re-establish its position as an electronics leader.

But even the most dedicated of Fanboys seem ready for iPhone alternatives, or even Android alternatives for that matter.  The auctioning of a Firefox ZTE smartphone on eBay caused quite a stir this week, proving there’s demand, and plenty of room for more than what Apple and Google have to offer.  There also seems to be excitement swelling over smart devices beyond the phone, for the enterprise sector – the next frontier for wearable tech.
