Hybrid Storage is Disrupting the IT Landscape

 
The Internet of Things is driving demand for cost-effective storage solutions that deliver both capacity and performance. In an interview with Tegile Vice President Rob Commins at Cisco Live this week, #theCUBE learned that Tegile hybrid arrays marry the benefits of solid-state and traditional disk to “reduce capacity requirements while driving performance integrity.” The vendor doubled its revenue in the last three months, an unprecedented growth rate that earned it an additional $35 million in funding from Meritech Capital Partners, August Capital, SanDisk and Western Digital Capital.

Doubling Down On Virtualization: HP Makes Big Announcement

 
In a big announcement out of Palo Alto this week, HP rolled out their new HP Converged Storage technology. This investment in the transition to software-defined storage (SDS) is confirmation of what we at SiliconANGLE have been reporting on for some time. HP’s new StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) promises to significantly reduce IT costs for businesses and organizations.

Symphony Crescendos Their Violin with New Flash Memory Array

 
On Monday, Violin Memory Inc. announced the 6264 flash Memory Array, its next generation of flash memory storage that delivers 64TB of capacity in a mere 3U footprint. And to complement the 6000 Series Arrays, the new Violin Symphony Management System was also introduced. Symphony aims to enable enterprise-wide management of Violin Memory Arrays through a single pane of glass view – from any device, anytime.

Nimbus All-Flash Arrays Flash in the Pan for Big Data

 
Monday was quite an eventful day for flash arrays. Aside from Violin Memory announcing its new flash array on Monday, Nimbus Data Systems, Inc., the leading provider of unified all-flash storage systems for enterprise and cloud infrastructure, also announced its fourth-generation all-flash arrays: the Gemini F400 and F600. The CIO Knows Best, Says Voonami’s Steve Newell

 
Voonami, a Utah-based provider of colocation, hosting and managed services, has successfully added 20 terabytes to its environment using hybrid storage arrays from Tegile. Steve Newell, a sales engineer with Voonami, discussed his company’s use case during last month’s Wikibon Peer Incite event. Before the upgrade, Voonami’s public cloud offering ran in an environment that combined NetApp storage with Cisco UCS servers and VMware virtualization software.

HP Unveils Scale-Out, Software-Defined Storage Appliance

 
Hewlett Packard is jumping into the software-defined storage fray with a new scale-out StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) that offers data tiering and tight integration with VMware and Microsoft. VSA will be available starting September 30 in 4, 10 and 500-terabyte configurations. Hewlett Packard is one of several big name enterprise vendors that are working to establish a foothold in the software-defined data center. IBM is in a similar position: the company perceives software-defined storage as a stepping stone to the democratization of data.

A Vote of Approval for Virtualization

 
Over the past several years, organizations have had to struggle with the decision on whether and how to transfer their data storage scheme from a traditional warehouse model to a virtualized environment. Security continues to be one of the primary reasons for their slow adoption. Enter the United States Navy to give virtualized storage a significant vote of confidence. The US Navy, recognizing the cost-benefit of virtualization, has launched a pilot program intended to review virtual desktops.
