Google wants to take the words right out of your mouth with ‘personalized automated responses’

Google has just filed a patent applications that governs a system that allows it to post ‘automated comments’ onto social networks, though some see this as a move that greatly defeats its purpose of cleaning the web of autoposting bots.

The patent, entitled “Automated generation of suggestions for personalized reactions in a social network,” deals with automated responses based on posts from people in your social circle.  It uses algorithms and analysis to give you the best options for your automated response.  Like if someone posted, “I got a job at SiliconANGLE!” and there have been others who commented, “Congratulations!” or “Congrats!” Google will be able to determine how many people have written the same thing, what other responses are available, and then deliver some phrases you can choose from.

“The present disclosure is particularly advantageous because it provides a system and interface that automatically generate suggestions for personalized reactions or messages. There is no requirement for the user to set reminders or be proactive.”

“The system automatically without user input analyzes information to which the user has access, and generates suggestions for personalized reactions to messages. The suggestion analyzer cooperates with the decision tree to learn the user’s behavior and automatically adjust the suggested messages that are generated over time,” Google stated in its filing.

As the title states, Google aims to automate personalized responses, but some argue that automating something removes the personal touch.  Though it’s automated, people will still have to choose what the response will be, however Google will just be helping them out by making things faster.

Assuming the ultimate goal for this patent is to make personalized automated responses based on keywords, which means people won’t have to deal with responding to every post by your friends, people can just set their responses for specific posts, and you never have to worry about getting left out in greeting someone a happy birthday or sending out condolences.

But the funny thing is, Google has been battling bots that flood the internet with duplicate posts in order to get more ads or better rankings.  This patent filing could be seen as something that can be used for the same purpose, a way of enabling bots to flood the internet with more useless crap.  But then again, this could be Google’s way of making Google+ a little more lively, since not many people are active on that particular social networking site.

As for privacy concerns, people using various apps on social sites already permit these services to post on their behalf, so allowing Google to generate personalized automated responses wouldn’t be much different
