Rumor: Apple to add Force Touch and pink color option to iPhone 6s

iphone 6 imageApple Inc. plans to include Force Touch technology, first introduced on the Apple Watch and now on the new 12-ich MacBook, in the next iteration of its iPhones.

Using sensors to detect how hard a user is pressing on the screen, Force Touch can tell apart light taps from hard presses and use that information to let the user carry out different actions based on how hard they are pressing on the screen.

Anonymous sources at Apple’s suppliers said to be familiar with the company’s plans told The Wall Street Journal that Force Touch technology is one of the changes Apple intends to include in the next iteration of its iPhones, due out later this year.

The next iPhones, expected to be called the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, will have the same display size as Apple’s current larger-screen iPhone models: 4.7-inches for the iPhone 6s and 5.5-inches for the iPhone 6s Plus. Screen resolution will also stay the same.

Current models of the iPhone are available in three colors: space gray, silver and gold. According to these sources, Apple is experimenting with a new pink color for the ‘S’ lineup. They note that the new color may not necessarily make it to production as Apple often tests various designs with suppliers that, in the end, may not feature on the end product.

Earlier this month, AppleInsider learnt that the new ‘S’ lineup of iPhones may also include an upgrade to 2 gigabytes of RAM and the Apple SIM, which lets users sign up for mobile data plans directly from the Settings app, allowing them to switch carriers at any time and avoid long-term contracts.

Suppliers will likely start production of components for the new iPhones in May and it is widely expected that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be released in September, as is Apple’s tradition.
