Markel streamlines architecture with enterprise hybrid Cloud | #emcworld
Insurance underwriter Markel Corp. grew rapidly through acquisition. With this growth, the company found itself with disparate architecture in its data center that needed streamlining. Senior director of IT, Mike von Slomski, told theCUBE that he learned about the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud at EMC World 2014 and thought it would accomplish that task, as well as help the company achieve its long-term IT goals.
Decision analytics a big win
“We knew we had this disparate architecture, but our team also had to take care of day-to-day business,” von Slomski said. “EMC came in and augmented our efforts and helped us figure out what we had, why we had it and how is was connected.”
EMC representatives also determined what systems were and were not Cloud-ready. “To get those decision analytics up front was a big win for us,” von Slomski said.
Professional Services undergoes heavy lifting
Since introducing the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud at EMC World last year, EMC Professional Services has undergone some “heavy lifting” to meet customers’ needs.
“It presented very well,” said EMC Professional Services President Mike Koehler, who also spoke to theCUBE during EMC World 2015. “Customer interest continued to grow from virtualization to IT transformation and enterprise hybrid Cloud. Over the past year, we’ve taken the concepts and ideas we showed here and turned them into solutions for both products and services.”
