Where open source is Influencing | #OpenStackSeattle

Collaboration, governance and open-source projects are bringing together established and new companies. Jeff Frick, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, talked with Alan Clark, chairman of the board at OpenStack Foundation and a board member for the Linux Foundation, about the importance of open source and the speed of innovation.

Speed of innovation

The right people can help push innovation forward, which is largely what we are seeing with open-source and OpenStack technology efforts.

“You can see the openness of this,” said Clark, “You don’t have to force people to give back, and it is because of the speed of innovation.” The number of projects and pace of change and innovation is unprecedented – which no one can do alone and everyone wants to be a part of, Clark added.

Getting involved

Many people want to get involved in open source. Clark offered this advice: “One thing to look at when you join an open-source project is make sure it isn’t controlled by any one single entity.”

Broad collaboration makes for better balance and a chance for more successful development without the limitations of one controller, Clark added.
