What’s new in WAN: Keeping the enterprise connected | #VMworld

As with most providers attending this year’s VMworld event, Ramesh Prabagaran, VP of product management for Viptela, Inc., is answering to his enterprise clients’ demands for growing bandwidth and keeping costs low.

Prabagaran spoke with Dave Vellante and John Furrier on theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, at VMworld 2015 in San Francisco about WAN and the issues facing the enterprise.

Enterprise demands

“The transformation (in the industry) right now is about how to optimize network connectivity to access services that are no longer in one place,” according to Prabagaran. He contended that cost is the number one contributing factor for most CIOs. The second issue is agility in deploying multiple sites. Lastly, the enterprise is concerned with time-to-capability and application performance.

When it comes to a company’s ability to use multiple transport circuits and steer the applications according to traffic, historically it has been a one-size-fits-all.

Expanded solutions

The first solution is providing the flexibility in using different types of transport circuits. By mixing and matching different transport networks, Viptela provides economical solution through software. Prabagaran stated, “Adding value-added services is possible through software innovation.”

The vision for enterprise is to create networks that behave to meet the needs of the consumer. Viptela offers the customer a flexible solution based on this premise, considering the need to manage cost, security and application intelligence.

Viptela’s services come in a variety of flavors to help the enterprise navigate today’s technology issues. They offer services in both boxed and software solutions, and they offer managed-services through carrier partners.
