Justin.tv on iPhone Outpaces Android, Combined 20% Spike in Broadcasts
Justin.tv has gained a 20% increase in the number of broadcasts available on its site, for the month of September. It’s Justin.tv’s recently launched mobile apps you can thank for that, according to NewTeeVee.
We’ve covered a lot of news on the rise of mobile apps, ushered in by spreading operating systems in the midst of one of the greatest consumer revolutions of our time. So it’s nice to see some hard numbers around the power of a mobile app.
It was the streaming service’s Android app that was released first, followed by an iPhone app another two weeks later. Though Android users got a first look at the Justin.tv mobile app, usage got a big boost once the iPhone version came out.
The success of Justin.tv is indicative of something else: growing support of video tools on mobile devices. Justin.tv was not the first to market, especially on the Android platform. Qik’s mobile, live-streaming broadcast app was an early entrant on the market, providing a service that wasn’t even available yet for iOS developers.
This early growth shows brand recognition for Justin.tv, as well as a growing interest in its related industry. As far as business development goes, we’re seeing a lot of experimentation with mobile video ad formats. It’s only a matter of time before these trickle down into consumer-driven applications such as Justin.tv’s.
