After announcing earlier this morning their new VP David Ko, former Head of the U.S Audience unit at Yahoo!, Zynga has made yet another significant step forward, and acquired the legendary Bonfire Studios; now renamed to Zynga Dallas. The mastermind behind Halo Wars and Age of Empires will now be developing original IP for the social game developer.
“Starting today, Bonfire Studios becomes Zynga Dallas and will be developing original IP for the company – with Bonfire founders David Rippy, Bill Jackson and Scott Winsett leading the charge.”
After a rather fresh $500 million investment from giants including Google and the Japanese Softbank, Zynga is amidst yet another round of proving and establishing their aim to expand as much and possible, and then grow some more. The company’s acquisition of Bonfire studios is only the latest one of a streak of spending (everybody can use $500 million, everybody), going back all the way here to the acquisition of Boston’s Conduit Labs, and a fresh launch of a first localized version of Zynga Poker in China.
The company is certainly eager to invest sizable amounts in the sake of potentially hefty future profits, but where others are likely to go wrong, the international web 2.0 game developer with a $500 million bigger budget progresses.
THANK YOU
