ShoreTel acquires Agito Networks, Empowering the New Age Mobile Worker

ShoreTel, one of the leading service providers of IP-based phone systems, has successfully acquired the Agito Networks, another leader in the platform-agnostic enterprise mobility. Through this $11.4 million deal, ShoreTel is all set to redefine the actual meaning of the “Mobile Worker”. This deal would definitely change the rules of the communications industry, giving users the absolute freedom to work anywhere.

“This is a key strategic investment that creates a significant differentiator for ShoreTel in enterprise mobility,” said Don Girskis, interim CEO of ShoreTel. “Dependence on smartphones continues to skyrocket, but many workers still struggle with poor coverage areas, inferior call quality, expensive international roaming fees and limited feature sets. By integrating the Agito technology with ShoreTel’s brilliantly simple UC system, we free users to use any network (Wi-Fi or cellular), leveraging the power of the desk phone, and taking advantage of industry-leading call quality and call controls from their smartphone. This not only has a positive impact on productivity, but it also positively affects the bottom line with significant savings on mobile and international usage fees.”

In this all-cash deal, ShoreTel has acquired the customer base, distribution network and all IPRs of Agito. Besides, it has also hired some of the employees from the company. This has significantly expanded the customer base of ShoreTel, and consequently the prospects of access to Fortune 1000 customers.

The award-winning technology from Agito Networks in Entrprise Mobility will be utilized by the ShoreTel to provide native support to leading Smartphone majors including Nokia, Blackberry and tablet giants like Apple for iPad & iPhone. There are so many benefits that Shore Tel has taken from this acquisition, let’s just see how it is going to boom further.

There are several companies insterested in revolutionizing telecommunications, on various levels.  Cisco and Logitech are expanding some of their home-office products, while Skype, headed towards an IPO, is rolling out a number of integrated services as well.
