In a Wall Street Journal interview, the CEO of Acer, Gianfranco Lanci, revealed his expectations about the growth of company revenues. He expects the growth of company revenue to continue with the current pace for the next year as well. Currently, Acer is the second largest computer maker in the world after HP.
Lanci is confident enough about the growth momentum due to better product mix provided by their company along with their growing footsteps in emerging economies like Brazil and China. He reported that the company is also preparing to launch their first tablet PC soon, which will again add up to their growth pace. The detailed interview of Acer’s CEO is with WSJ, but his comment surely reflects their expectations to surpass HP in certain areas.
“We haven’t seen any weakness in the emerging markets and demand is coming back in Western Europe, though demand in the U.S. remains soft,” said Lanci. “We are on track to overtake HP to be the world’s largest notebook and netbook PC maker next year.
PCs is all fine and well–in fact, interest in the computing industry overall seems to be regaining, as IBM, HP and others have posted strong earnings for Q3 2010. But it also seems the world has already moved on to tablets. Apple, setting device standards, has incurred a flurry of development around competing tablets, all anxious to make their mark on consumers.
HP is a leader in this regard, as it’s already debuted the Slate tablet. So while Acer hopes to outpace HP’s PC sales, the tablet world is a whole new ball game. Fortunately, Acer is set to release some tablets of its own. The tablet will be sold at US$299-US$699, Lanci said, but not many other details were revealed. Expect to see the tablets sometime early next year–timing is everything at this point.
