Businesses looking to use Big Data to achieve goals often complain that there are too few data scientists ready to hire and bring real results. One way to get the most out of the data professionals they do have is to make sure their IT environments give them the leg room the need.
Describing the process of getting from vision to process to action, Ted Bardasz, senior director of product management, Cloud Native and Big Data Solutions at EMC, said, “There’s someone sitting on the business side that’s really thinking about particular outcomes they believe they should be able to achieve with Big Data. There’s a marriage between that and IT the teams.”
Bardasz spoke to Stu Miniman (@stu) and Brian Gracely (@bgracely), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during EMC World 2016.
To turn Big Data insights to actions, Bardasz advised, “You have to create the right environment for that both in terms of setting up the right infrastructure to run these Big Data tools, but also in terms of setting up the environment in order to empower the data scientist.”
Bardasz also said that the key question for businesses is: “How do we get it so when they have insight they want to go after, that there’s not 15 different tickets to IT that they’re waiting for, and then eventually, maybe they just go out and do shadow IT.”
He said businesses and their IT teams need to keep the end game of “actionalizing” in mind with everything they do. “Insights are great, but it’s about actioning the insights,” he said. “How do they get that application that really creates a much tighter relationship with their customers?”
