Big Data is a defining tool for modern business. However, as business goes global, so must the data, and that can be a trick. Not only does data come in so many forms, companies must comply with regulatory issues and the very laws of physics. It’s a challenge to move Big Data, but also a necessity for any international company.
To gain some insight into the world of moving data, John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, spoke to Matt Hayes, VP of SAP business at Attunity, Inc., during the SAP Sapphire 2016 conference.
Hayes opened the conversation by talking about recent highlights. SAP HANA, a system for processing Big Data, has been the focus for some time and still is, he said, and a lot of our customers are moving to HANA.
“The Cloud is popular, as well, and we can give our customers the power to scramble their data so they can feel comfortable moving sensitive data to the Cloud,” he said.
SAP used to be an applications company, and now it’s an application company with a full platform, integrated all around, according to Hayes. “We’re expanding on that,” he said. “The Big Data vision is key, and there’s a whole analytics angle where we fit in.”
Customers are consolidating regional interests into one global SAP instance, Hayes said. If a company can bring their data together, they can move toward other aspects like analytics. Solving the challenges of data movement to allow consolidation is a part of the pieces that need to evolve over the next few years, he added.
The key for us at Attunity is helping customers blend Internet of Things data with SAP data, Hayes states. This allows them to do predictive analytics and automate features within applications.
“We’ve got this breadth of solutions here, and now we’re knitting them together, and it’s coming along nicely,” Hayes said.
