The Android Duke Out – Keeping Apple, RIM at Bay

According to a study released by research firm Canalys tackling the smartphone market, Google’s Android OS booms in the United States with 43.6% market share, and is close to surpassing Nokia’s spot worldwide, with 25% and 33% global market share respectively.

“Android has been well received by the market and in some geographies it is becoming a sought-after consumer brand,” said Pete Cuningham, a Canalys senior analyst.

Helping Google to its success are handset makers Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony Ericsson as they patronize Android operating system.

Moreover, Android has a wide array of price point that caters the needs and budget of users, from the high-end Samsung Galaxy S and HTD Desire to as low-end as LG GT54 and Huawei’s Vodafone 845. Diving to exceedingly affordable price is “The Optimus” invading Walmart for only $0.97, with a two-year contract, according to TMoNews.com, an unofficial T-Mobile blog.

Also, watch out for Viewsonic launching an Android tablet.
