How one cloud provider turbocharged its business plan | #DockerCon

Joyent, Inc., a San Francisco-based pioneer of public and hybrid cloud, admittedly lacked the scale needed to compete on the big stage. Now, as an independent subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Joyent stands poised for growth.

Hammold spoke to John Furrier (@furrier) and Brian Gracely (@bgracely), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during DockerCon 2016.

Samsung was drawn to Joyent’s technology and expertise according to Joyent president and CEO Scott Hammond. “For Samsung, it’s about extending the value of what they bring to the marketplace,” he said, noting Samsung’s momentum in mobile and IoT. “They want to add a layer of cloud services to their leading devices.”

Working with Android developers

Hammond also looks forward to working with Android developers. “There are some interesting opportunities for us to work with that group and bring more services and a better platform to them that can be tied to other tools,” he stated.

Samsung spent a lot of time prior to the sale “digging deep” into Joyent’s Triton and Manta storage platforms. “Those two technologies were paramount for them,” Hammond said.

Hammold also said that the Joyent team looks forward to integrating with Samsung’s culture. “This turbocharges our business plan,” he said.
