The end of processors, and the start of a developer-led market | #OpenStackSV

The technology of today has come a long way from the bulky, obsolescent computers of the ’90s. In fact, the supercomputer of 2016 is almost totally immaterial. With the development of the cloud, coders can build applications from scratch in micro elements.

According to Lew Tucker, VP and CTO of Cloud Computing at Cisco Systems, Inc., it’s all about entropy. Tucker sat down with John Furrier (@Furrier) and Lisa Martin (@Luccazara), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, today at OpenStack Days: Silicon Valley 2016 in Mountain View, CA.

Paradigm shift spurs digital transformation

“The universe is getting more and more distributed,” said Tucker.

In turn, this increase in distribution is spurring a digital transformation and a new paradigm that has coders developing applications from their laptops.

Putting power in the hands of developers

Gone are the days when computing power was limited solely to technological elites. This paradigm shift puts all the power in the hands of the developer, an effect that’s disrupting multiple industries globally.

“With the standardization of OpenStack, we’re seeing the way the industry is built on an architectural mindset,” said Tucker. “This is the beginning of the end for processors. It’s a software transformation of the data section, and things move faster in the software.”
