How PaaS is helping developers move into the future | #OOW

The future for developers is changing rapidly, and Oracle is helping developers reach new levels with its Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), according to Amit Zavery, Senior Vice President, Integration Products, at Oracle.

Zavery spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld 2016 to talk about PaaS and its importance to developers.

A tool for the broader platform requirement

Oracle has been building from day one on an open standard technology with broad functionality, according to Zavery, and the company has a very good history of building out a platform.

“So our customers are really trying to solve a broader platform requirement — not just trying to build an application,” he said. They want to be able to integrate the application, to take data from it and do real-time analysis, and to then work in conjunction with any infrastructure. These are the kinds of developers Oracle’s PaaS is targeting.

“That’s what we’ve really seen success from,” Zavery added.

The changing future for developers

In the future, developers shouldn’t have to worry about DevOps or underlining technologies, said Zavery. They should be focused on writing code and extending applications. All other things should automated and provided from the platform provider.

“That’s a service we provide … so that developers can focus on writing the application,” he said. “And we make sure that we give you the choice. Where you can pick the languages you want, you can pick the standards you want. … But we give you the choice. It’s not one or the other.”

Oracle’s PaaS solutions offer ease of use and a quick kind of tooling to empower developers, according to Zavery.
