Justin Bieber, Haiti, iPad… A Look at the Trendiest Terms of 2010

Justin Bieber, Haiti, iPad… Which Terms Made it To the Top in 2010 Facebook and LinkedIn Collection?

Facebook has unveiled the 2010 top 10 global status trends of 2010. This is the second such “memology” conducted by Zuckerberg’s organization. Last year, FML emerged as the triumphant winner with the most number of inclusions in status and posts.

At number 10 is the word “airplane”—thanks to B.o.B’s hit song, the word has reached popularity across the sphere. Who could forget the rescue attempts of the 33 Chilean miners trapped for 69 days in an underground mine site? The call for prayers and media attention has placed “miners/mineros” at the ninth spot. The eighth spot was clinched by “Games on Facebook” for obvious reasons.

Justin Bieber has conquered the music scene with hit songs and chart topping music videos by storm. The phenomenon continues and infected Facebook, with “Justin Bieber” placing 7th on the most talked about terms in Facebook status of the year. He is the only actual person appearing on the list. Earthquake in Haiti earned various citations and is ranked 6th overall. Apple gadgets like iPhone 4 and iPad both took the 5th spot; while “movies” and “World Cup” earned distinction as well.

Claiming the top spot, reaching an average of 80,000 a day, is HMU, or hit me up—a common term used by the young ones to tell their friends that they are already set to hang out, chat over the phone or a signal.

Along the same vein The Los Angeles Times posted a list of the “10 most Overused terms on Linkedin. So, if you think “results-oriented”, “problem solver” and “proven track record” are characteristics that will make you stand-out from the rest of the jobseekers in the planet, you may want to start updating your CVs as these terms just made it to the top 3 of LinkedIn’s most used terms. Other words that are part of the “most-mentioned-hence-should-be-avoided-moving-forward” list include motivated, dynamic, team player, extensive experience, innovative, fast paced and entrepreneurial. Surprisingly, “invalid username/password” did not make it to the list.
