AMD CEO Dirk Meyer Resigns

AMD CEO Dirk Meyer, who served in the position ever since 2008, has left the company. The chip maker and long time Intel competitor announced that Meyer’s departure was agreed upon and concluded mutually, but that doesn’t really seem to be the cases in light of the circumstances.

“MD is spinning Meyer’s departure as the result of a “mutual” agreement, but the fact that it’s effective immediately and that CFO Thomas Seifert has been tapped to replace him suggest it may have been otherwise.”

Meyer was representing AMD at CES last week, and surprisingly, Seifert isn’t even a candidate for the permanent position of the company’s former CEO. According to AMD chairman, after Meyer “…successfully stabilized AMD”, the board of directors believes that in order to achieve growth a leadership change must be executed. One may wonder how such a calculated decision led to a resignation which took effect immediately. Either way, the company’s Q4 financial results report may help shed some more light on this incident.

AMD is one of the fastest growing companies in its segment. Hopefully the sudden shift involving the departure of Dirk Meyer won’t slow down its progress, especially in light of Intel’s own new products’ presence at CES.  In other Intel news, the chip manufacturer settled its patent lawsuit with Nvidia, paying out over $1 billion to its competitor.
