Android Tablet Market On A Honeycomb Pattern

Google is holding a press event today led by CEO Larry Page, and it is expected to make some announcements for its latest operating system, Honeycomb 3.0, that will improve the tablet experience. The event will also involve Android ecosystem news and hands-on demos of devices such as Motorola Xoom, next generation tablets from Samsung and not only. Among other speculated news, Google might launch Google Music, a feature announced a few months ago, but not implemented yet. Google Music renders YouTube integration and in May 2010, Google’s Vic Gundotra demonstrated a desktop browser version of the Android Market, promising it would come with a future version of the platform.

The updates for Honeycomb 3.0 have been expected for some time now as some voices say that the current Android 2.2 version of the OS is responsible for the bigger number of Galaxy tabs being returned (13% return rate in December 2010) in comparison with iPads (2% return rate). The increased return rate might indicate an immature Android Tablet Market as Maria said, although according to reports from Strategy Analytics, there has been a 1000% increase in market share for Android tablets for the fourth quarter of 2010.

T-Mobile announced today the launch in the near future of the LG G-Slate, an 8.9-inch tablet running Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, an OS specifically designed for the tablet form factor. The device is innovative in the sense that it offers a 3D display for viewing recorded video and other 3D content by using 3D glasses. The tablet is the main point of interest at the moment and all efforts are focused on this side. The latest news from Branchild reveals information on Kineo, a new Android tablet for educational purposes, created in cooperation with teachers and school administrators. The device features WiFi and media playing capabilities, on a 7-inch screen.
