Always keen to show off its marquee customer signings, Amazon Web Services Inc. took the chance to highlight another big win with the news today that web hosting company GoDaddy Inc. is going all-in on its public cloud.
GoDaddy said it intends to move the “vast majority” of its information technology infrastructure to AWS as part of a multiyear transition that will eventually see it shut down its own data centers for good. The company said it plans to use a wide range of Amazon’s cloud services, including its analytics, database, container-as-a-service and machine learning offerings.
The container aspect is interesting because GoDaddy is among the early adopters of this new technology, which is used by developers to create applications that can run on any hardware or software platform. GoDaddy plans to use Amazon’s Elastic Container Service for all its container operations in a move that clearly validates the public cloud giant’s platform.
GoDaddy said it will also make use of Amazon’s most powerful graphics processing units, which are offered with the AWS Elastic Compute Cloud P3 Instances service. The company intends to use these chips to power its machine learning models and boost the performance of its Domain Appraisals tool.
“As a large, high-growth business, GoDaddy will be able to leverage AWS to innovate for its customers around the world,” said Mike Clayville, vice president of worldwide commercial sales at AWS. “Our industry-leading services will enable GoDaddy to leverage emerging technologies like machine learning, quickly test ideas, and deliver new tools and solutions to their customers with greater frequency.”
