Fusion-io, JMR & StoneFly Have Their Heads in the Cloud

On the occasion of the National Association of Broadcasters Show that started this week, JMR will launch, and offer a live demonstration of the latest produce from their collaboration with Fusion-io, a high performance and scalable tiered storage system in a compact architecture. This new high speed solution brings together Fusion’s ioMemory technology with JMR’s BlueStor™ 16 Bay PCIe Extender, connected to the BlueStor™ GPU Server.

“JMR’s PCIe expansion and compute capabilities paired with Fusion’s ioDrive Duos enable customers with the flexibility to grow their ioMemory footprint, scaling both capacity and performance as required by application demand, while respecting budgetary considerations,” said Josef Rabinovitz, JMR CEO.

The main features of this new solution are small footprint, bolstered capacity, extended PCI Express bus on host to support additional ioMemory memory or peripherals and decreased transcode/encode times.

“We’re excited to see a respected leader like JMR choosing ioMemory to meet the performance expectations of their cutting edge customers,” said Fusion-io’s Jim Dawson, EVP of Sales. “Whether used in video streaming applications like real time playback of stereoscopic 5K footage or accelerating business-critical databases, ioMemory offers versatility and value for entertainment production.”

Another similar technical collaboration on behalf of Fusion-io was announced last week and the other party of the team work is StoneFly, a leading manufacturer of integrated IP Storage Area Network systems. The two companies agreed on the release of a new solution combining StoneFly’s innovative Virtual SAN Software Appliances, the SCVM™ and ESS™ for Windows and Fusion’s line of high performance flash-based ioMemory products.

“Building innovative solutions with OEMs such as StoneFly will help our shared customers benefit from integrating ioMemory at every level of the enterprise, across the entire network,” said Jim Dawson, Executive Vice President of Sales for Fusion-io. “We are excited to work closely with StoneFly to accelerate their applications, consolidate workloads and savings on capital and operational expenditures, as well as enable virtualization and cloud computing for their customers.”

Flash storage technology is slowly grasping the consumer devices area, such as the iPad, as seen by Fusion-io’s ioDrives – flash-based storage that plugs into a PCIexpress slot on a server motherboard and offers performance advantages over disk-based storage.  Technological advancements trigger changes in all areas of businesses and Facebook is no exception. The company announced last week the commencement of the Open Compute Project aimed at sharing specifications and best practices for creating the most energy efficient and economical data centers, a domain that Fusion-io masterfully handles.
