Digital workers ply AI across apps to get job done quicker

Artificial intelligence within one application can assist users with predictions and insights. AI that works across applications — performing tasks, analyzing documents, etc. — does more. It can function as a digital worker that quickly does jobs humans would slog through all day.

The idea of a robot that could work on a person’s behalf was sci-fi fantasy for a long time. But as AI has become much more common in apps, it’s become feasible for it to work between apps and do complex tasks.

“It is not automation within an application — it is automation across applications, across processes, across whichever applications, from whichever vendors there may be, without changing the application itself,” said Prince Kohli (pictured), chief technology officer of Automation Anywhere Inc.

Kohli spoke with Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Automation Anywhere Imagine event in New York City. They discussed AI’s power to work across apps and processes as digital workplace assistants (see the full interview with transcript here). (* Disclosure below.)

Digital step ladder gives workers a boost

Today, there are many applications and software features in enterprises that should work together and don’t, according to Kohli. Integrating them together would greatly increase efficiency and productivity, he added.

“The application vendors are not going to do that; it is not in their own interest. So someone has to, and we are the fabric that brings it together,” he said.

Automation Anywhere’s intelligent automation platform features AI at all points to expedite tasks involving many steps. The company’s platform features robotic process automation, analytics and AI. “AI is embedded in the interaction with the application, interaction with the screen, interaction with the person, interaction with the document,” Kohli said.

It also integrates various third-party AI software to produce AI-enabled “skills” for specific industries. For example, it can determine whether or not an insurance claim should be denied or a credit card should be issued.

These features don’t replace people but enable them to be more efficient and productive, according to Kohli. They also provide a better experience for customers.

“The nature of the jobs changes. The value that humans provide goes higher and higher,” he concluded.
