The future of work is here: Citrix Synergy 2019 helps companies navigate the changing workplace

Citrix Systems Inc., founded in 1989, was a pioneer in virtual desktop infrastructure, delivering desktops from servers as a virtual machine long before the term ‘cloud computing’ became popularized. With this 30-year depth of knowledge around technology and innovation, Citrix Systems sets out to adapt workforces for today’s digital transformation.

The ever-evolving workplace was the theme of Citrix Synergy 2019, the companies annual conference this week in Atlanta, Georgia. Approximately 6,000 attendees were on hand.

“We’ve talked a lot about, ‘This is the future of work, and it’s coming.’ Well, guess what? It is here,” said Tim Minahan (pictured), executive vice president of business strategy and chief marketing officer at Citrix Systems. “We have multiple generations working in the workforce today. We have entirely new work styles. We have gig workers, contractors, full-time employees. We have entirely different devices and applications that have come into this environment — and people want to collaborate through different channels as well as traditional email. So how do we bring all of that together?”

Minahan spoke with Paul Gillin (@pgillin), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at theCUBE’s studio in Boston, Massachusetts. They discussed the Synergy Conference dynamics, how the workplace has evolved, and what companies need to know to be successful (see the full interview with transcript here). (* Disclosure below.)

Navigating complex work environments at Citrix Synergy 2019

As Citrix Synergy 2019 explored the future of work, it’s been made clear that the possibilities around a global workforce have exploded — and one of the things that continues to come to the forefront for companies is the need to drive a superior employee experience, according to Minahan. Companies who can attract the right talent and give them the right tools and flexibility will be well ahead of the competition in the coming marketplace. A modern-day company must empower a better way to work for employees, because employees are becoming increasingly frustrated with the complexity of workloads.

“They need to navigate multiple different environments, they need to remember multiple passwords, they need to spend time in a whole host of applications that may not be pertinent to their job, but it’s something that they’re required to do,” Minahan explained. “It’s keeping them from their core job.”

Synergy 2019 explored all the ways that Citrix is helping give that unified experience workers crave with Citrix’s digital workspace, networking, and analytics tools. For example, Citrix Workspace enables single sign-on to all applications and content regardless of where a person is located — because it’s important to bring simplified intelligence into the workspace to allow employees to actually be guided through their day so they don’t need to log in to multiple applications, according to Minahan. The goal is to also present a worker with insights to remove the noise from their day so they can do the fulfilling work they truly want to do.

“We’re now injecting machine learning and simplified workflows or micro-apps … to make employees even more productive within the workspace than outside of it, really guiding them through their day,” Minahan concluded. “So when we say this is how the future works … the key message is … the future is here today. We’re delivering the experience, the security, and the choice that employees and organizations need to drive innovation, to engage customers and employees in new digital ways, and to be productive anytime, anywhere.”
