Stealth intervention security startup Trinity Cyber raises $23M from Intel

Security startup Trinity Cyber Inc. said today it has raised $23 million in funding from Intel Capital to build out a service it claims is an entirely new approach to cybersecurity: stealth interception of external threats.

Founded in 2016, Trinity Cyber offers technology-enabled operations that actively prevent attacks. Acting as an addition to traditional cybersecurity offerings, the company’s service is described additive in that it operates outside network perimeters to intercept cybersecurity attacks.

The company delivers on its promises using Proactive Threat Interference, a technology that it says stops attacks before they reach internal networks to reduce risks. Trinity said this “adversary interference” is unique.

Notably, Trinity Cyber does not offer cloud-based services but instead sells its technology on a software-as-a-service model, running it exclusively on its own hardware houses in U.S. data centers. As VentureBeat explained, Trinity Cyber’s solution sits between a client’s network and the outside world, monitoring data packets with a recursive scan engine that runs on remote hardware. When a potential intrusion or breach is detected, the service alerts information technology administrators while actively attempting to counter the attack to prevent compromise.

“The trend in global cyber attacks has been going in the wrong direction for some time, and American businesses are paying the price,” Wendell Brooks, senior vice president of Intel Corp. and president of Intel Capital, said in a statement. “It’s time we meet this problem with a truly preventive solution.”

Along with the funding announcement, Trinity Cyber also said Tom Bossert, former Homeland Security adviser to President Trump and U.S. cybersecurity chief to President George W. Bush, has joined as chief strategy officer. He also has held various roles at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Small Business Administration and the House of Representatives.
