Network security startup Axis Security emerges from stealth with $17M in funding

Network security startup Axis Security has launched out of stealth mode with $17 million in funding from Cyberstarts, Alex Doll of Ten Eleven Ventures and Gili Raanan, a partner at Sequoia Capital.

Fifteen-month-old Axis Security claims several unnamed Fortune 500 companies among its customers. The company offers the Axis Application Access Cloud, an “agentless”  model that’s said to deliver the easiest and safest way to connect users on any device in minutes to private apps without touching the network or the applications.

The Axis Application Access Cloud has been designed to solve the issue of implicitly open network access and removes pain points on network-based security associated with virtual private networks. The service can deploy with no agent or network changes required, with Adaptive Access Technology continuously managing all user activity while enforcing policy based on user behavior analytics. In addition, Application Isolation Technology prevents direct user access to eliminate attack surfaces.

“Axis Security is helping to solve one of the most complex security challenges for IT teams,” Dor Knafo (pictured, left), Axis Security’s co-founder and chief executive officer of Axis Security, said in a statement. “Enabling access to the basic tools of today’s digital economy should not be one of the biggest risks an organization takes. We’re giving IT teams what they’ve been lacking when it comes to applications and that is a single managed solution for access, security, control and scalability without the complexity.”

Knafo, along with co-founder Gil Azrielant (right), were previously with the Israeli Defense Forces Unit 8200, the Intelligence Corps unit specializing in cybersecurity. Unit 8200 has been descried as Israel’s “secret startup machine” given how many of its former employees go on to develop startups.

The Axis Security Application Access Cloud is now available on a software-as-a-service basis.
