Codefresh raises $27M to power DevOps software delivery with Kubernetes

Kubernetes DevOps tool developer platform Codefresh Inc. today announced it has raised $27 million in new funding led by Red Dot Capital Partners.

The new funding will more than double the total amount raised by the company, to $42 million. This funding round includes investment from Red Dot Capital Partners, Shasta Ventures, Vertex Ventures, M12: Microsoft’s Venture Fund, Viola Ventures, Hillsven, and CEIIF.

According to Codefresh, Kubernetes is quickly becoming the de facto tool delivery tool to run cloud-native applications. Kubernetes is an open-source platform for managing and orchestrating containerized workloads and services that enables both simple and complex configuration as well as on-demand optimization. Containers enable applications to run unchanged on multiple kinds of computer and cloud systems.

For companies that make heavy use of DevOps teams to integrate and deliver app features and patches, containers can greatly simplify the development process by encapsulating all app elements and configuration into one container, which can also call up any requirements on demand.

“Demand for a modern DevOps platform that helps engineering teams adopt and optimize workflows for Kubernetes is very high,” said Raziel Tabib, chief executive of Codefresh. “Our continuous integration and delivery platform accelerates our customers’ migration to Kubernetes, eliminates the cost of maintaining legacy tool chains and leverages cloud-native technology practices to speed up software delivery.”

Codefresh said it launched the first Kubernetes-focused continuous integration and delivery platform for DevOps and since then has been adopted by teams at Epic Games Inc., Gap Inc., Vivint Solar Inc., TBS and many others.

Using a container-based approach, Codefresh can be both git- and cloud-agnostic. That means that DevOps teams using the platform need not worry about which git-based repository platform stores the code nor which cloud infrastructure provider deploys the product. In an era where cloud providers continue to compete and expand their reach, this will allow any company using Codefresh to deploy to any provider that suits their needs.

“Codefresh is light years ahead of other CI/CD platforms on Kubernetes,” said Isaac Roth, partner at Shasta Ventures. “Their deep integrations into Kubernetes, git/cloud-agnostic architecture, and user experience are making Codefresh the default CI/CD for Kubernetes. This is especially true in an industry that has been dominated for years by complex and outdated tooling.”

Roth will join the advisory board for Codefresh and previously led the creation and growth of Red Hat’s popular Kubernetes platform OpenShift.

The company intends to use this funding to continue to expand its vision to make “big investments into open source, continuous delivery and more,” according to Tabib.
