Workday uses Google’s Procurement DocAI service to accelerate document scanning

Google LLC is highlighting how the financial management and human capital management software provider Workday Inc. is using one of its new cloud-based artificial intelligence services to accelerate document processing in multiple languages for its customers.

In a blog post today, Google revealed that Workday turned to its Procurement DocAI service to automate the processing of receipts and invoices, with an aim to enable a more seamless expense reporting experience for its customers.

Procurement DocAI is a cloud service that’s built atop Google’s Document AI platform, which is a unified console for document processing. Announced in October, it automates the capture of invoices, receipts and other procurement data at scale.

It takes unstructured documents across a variety of formats and turns them into cleanly structured data, helping to increase operational efficiency and improve document processing accuracy. Google claims Procurement DocAI has the highest accuracy of any data extraction service.

Workday had wanted to expand its expense receipt parsing functionality to support multiple languages for its international customers, explained Google product manager Nelson Gonzalez and product marketing manager Yang Liang.

The company uses Procurement DocAI to automate the processing of receipts with multi-language support, delivering data capture at scale and enabling its customers to gain deeper insights from those documents.

“At Workday, we believe enterprise software should simplify how organizations manage finance, HR, and planning,” said Shane Luke, Workday’s vice president of machine learning and AI. “Google Cloud’s Procurement DocAI, combined with our document processing machine learning models, enables streamlined receipt intake for our customers at global scale.”

Google said that by supporting multiple languages, including French, German and Spanish, Workday’s global customers were able to innovate much faster than before. In addition, Workday said, it has expanded its expense receipt scanning functionality to more customers around the world.

Workday said it’s planning to expand its partnership with Google and add support for more languages and new document types, such as supplier invoices, in the future.
