EMC Opens Support Center in Utah, Adds 500 Jobs

EMC will be opening a new support center in Utah, Governor Gary R. Herbert announced this week. Under its agreement with the state, the storage giant will add 500 new jobs and will invest $7 million in the set-up of the new facility that will accommodate this workforce by 2015.

“On an annual aggregate basis, wages for these 500 new employees are expected to exceed 125% of the average county salary,” Herbert says.  “Additionally, wages paid over the life of the company’s 10 year agreement with the State are expected to exceed $313 million.”

The state expects to receive about $14 million in tax revenues from the new center. Further, a press release states that over a 10-year period the state of Utah will offer a  post-performance, single taxpayer incentive of up to a bit over $3.5 million paid out as tax credit.

Another tech behemoth working with the government is Hewlett-Packard. The company landed its second $2.5 billion contract with the space agency two months ago. As a part of the agreement,  HP will provide services and devices to over 20,000 NASA employees, with two  additional three-year optional extension periods.

Customer service and support is a major focus for HP, not to mention EMC. This is a very meaningful aspect to getting new clients abroad; clients such as Industrial Color. Just about every major company and studio in the entertainment industry runs Industrial Color photo digital workflow software, according to the company – now powered by EMC Isilon S-Series and X-Series.

The storage giant is taking several approaches to growth, and in addition to gaining new customers, it has plans for a massive shopping spree. Last year the company spent $3 billion in acquisitions, and analysts believe there is no reason why EMC won’t spend just as much – or more- this year.
