Metallic bridges the business resilience gap using data intelligence
Despite data being a crucial asset that gives enterprises a competitive advantage, it’s a double-edged sword based on the value and vulnerability presented.
In the current data world, it’s no longer a question of if, but when bad actors will act because they are attracted by the value created. Therefore, organizations need to keep business resilience top of mind, according to Manoj Nair (pictured), general manager of Metallic.io, a Commvault venture.
“You need the ability to be antifragile,” he said. “Keep testing your data defenses to a point where your data is not a liability, but a business advantage. That kind of business resilience and integrity gap is what we have focused on. So our customers can really start taking advantage of the value equation of the data.”
Nair spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Commvault Connections21 event. They discussed the advantages of an intelligent and comprehensive data platform, the need for data intelligence and the new Metallic Security IQ feature. (* Disclosure below.)
The need for a single unified data platform
For enterprises to take full advantage of all their data, Nair believes that a single unified data services platform comes in handy. Metallic solves this quest by offering an intelligent and comprehensive data platform that deploys anomaly detection and machine learning.
“Now let’s take the example of containers and Kubernetes. What is the point of having transportation and the ability to move these containers to any cloud if your data is not available on all of those clouds?” he asked.
A single data architecture gives companies a competitive edge because no workloads are left behind. An intelligent and comprehensive data platform not only offers data security, but also provides protection grade, according to Nair.
Enterprises should be proactive when beefing up their data security, and Metallic enables this through the new Security IQ feature, he added.
“Security IQ brings together the culmination of a lot of security that we have done,” Nair explained. “It allows customers to be proactive. If you have brought gamification into that security aspect, it should be easy and fun plugging all the holes so that your last mile of defense is secure.”
Through sustained technology differentiation, Metallic offers data intelligence that security tools don’t, which makes businesses proactive, Nair concluded.
