Google LLC today announced the general availability of the Google Mobile Ads software development kit for Flutter opening up more money-making options for mobile developers using the open-source framework.
Until today, the GMA SDK has been available only in beta for the past six months while was tested and tweaked, but today it’s ready for prime time and developers can start putting it into practice in their iOS and Android apps.
It supports loading and displaying all Google mobile ads formats, including banner ads, interstitial ads, reward video ads, native ads and more. Using the SDK makes it quick and easy for developers to make money from their apps with advertisements.
The Google Ads team helped allow the GMA SDK to unify support for both Google AdMob and Google Ad Manager into a single plugin. The AdMob platform is exclusive to mobile developers that want to earn money from ads and gain insights to grow their app business. By contrast, Ad Manager is an ad management platform aimed at large publishers with large networks of direct sales.
According to Google, the GMA SDK was designed to allow sharing of code between both iOS and Android and reduce the need to rewrite code as ad serving needs grow.
This release also includes a preview of a new meditation feature, which will help developers optimize ad performance. Mediation allows for the management of multiple ads sources in order to serve ads into one place and choose which ones will appear to users in an app.
It can also be used to serve ads from non-Google ad networks.
With mediation, requests can be sent to multiple ad sources in order to find the best fit to fill requests. The new mediation format also supports bidding, which enables ad sources to compete in real-time auctions to fill ad requests. That ensures the highest revenue for impressions.
Flutter already offers other monetization capabilities such as in-app purchases and through Flutter’s Pay plug-in. With the in-app purchases plugin, developers can offer premium services, digital goods and subscriptions. And with Flutter’s Pay plug-in, developers can integrate with Google Pay on Android and Apple Pay on iOS.
Along with these updates, the Flutter team has updated the Flutter monetization website with new features, including samples, codelabs and documentation.
