Developer recruiting platform HackerRank raises $60M
Professional developer hiring platform HackerRank said today it will expand its core for coders and recruiters with $60 million in new funding led by Susquehanna Growth Equity, which brings the company’s valuation to $500 million.
Additional investors also participating in the Series D funding round included JMI, Khosla Ventures, Randstad Innovation Fund and Recruit Holdings. According to the company, this increases the total raised by HackerRank to $115 million to date.
“It’s never been more critical to hire the right developer with the right skill set,” said Vivek Ravisankar, chief executive of HackerRank. “For more than a decade, HackerRank has helped growing organizations hire for the most in-demand technical roles on the market.”
The platform provides a full-service technical interview platform for businesses that allows recruiters to get deep insights into candidates using numerous tools. These tools include coding challenges that provide recruits with a code editor and test questions, once the tests are complete, they are assessed on their skills and abilities.
Further along the interview process, recruiters and coders can also interact in real time using chat, audio or video along with a coding environment in order to complete challenges interactively. This opens up a new variety of interviewing techniques for remote candidates.
For developers, the platform also offers developers a coding tool and challenges so that they can practice their own coding skills, information resources and opportunities to join in hackathons and network with recruiters to get hired.
HackerRank has more than 2,800 business customers, a number that grew 36% over the past year, and more than 18 million developers signed onto its platform. According to the company’s own internal metrics, it has processed more than 188 technical challenges and code submissions in the past 12 months. Also, in that time the company has added 10 new roles and 35 new skills, which brings the total test content library up to 27 roles, 100 skills and more than 3,100 questions.
Ravisankar added that the company will use this cash infusion to expand the scale its team across all departments while also deepening its already existing core services into even more skills. For example, the company intends to add technical skill assessments for emerging technologies such as machine learning, blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
