Chuzzle, Peggle and Plants vs Zombies. These are just some of the famous games everybody enjoys right now. The maker of the three games, PopCap has just teamed up with Sony Ericsson. This deal means having the opportunity to enjoy playing your fave PopCap games straight to your Android-powered Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. This global deal kicks-off with the PopCap games appearing on Android devices throughout Europe.
“We are delighted to partner with Sony Ericsson to fulfil our promise to Android users and bring PopCap’s hit mobile games to an ever-widening base of smartphone users,”says Giordano Bruno Contestible, PopCap’s Senior Director.
“As the Android ecosystem matures, PopCap is committed to providing best-in-class game experiences for Android game players. The Sony Ericsson Xperia mini devices are equipped with superior processing power and exceptional screen resolution on the Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, which provides an excellent platform for delivering the quality fun that our fans have come to expect.”
Sony Ericsson’s Xperia line is one of the most entertaining smartphones in the mobile handset industry, and the first designed specifically with gamers in mind. With its superior entertainment features, its gaming experience is of top quality, though the devices have little else to offer compared to other Android handsets available on the market. But no matter for PopCap–the marketing potential behind driven launches like this reveal PopCap’s goals around its Android expansion, but also unveil its hopes for Android’s ecosystem maturation.
Starting this summer, the classic Chuzzle will come be pre-loaded onto certain smartphone devices. Trial versions of Peggle and PvS will also roll out, giving consumers the option to download the full version (for a fee).
The news of PopCap’s latest promo comes just days after EA acquired PopCap Games, a deal that cost EA around $650 million.
Aside from EA and PopCap, joining the world of mobile entertainment is German’s social game developer Wooga, bringing its most popular social games to iOS in its mobile transition beyond Facebook.
With these added features, mobile phones have evolved into a gaming or entertainment device from a simple communication gadget. Will the game features of a mobile phone affect your decision on which one to buy? It’s an important consideration as entertainment grows in relevance for mobile devices, and their hardware and software design incorporates new consumer demands. Even beyond gaming, mobile manufacturers are differentiating their devices around niche demographics, targeting entertainment, business and social users with unique device desigs.
